Wandering star

It's been a good couple of weeks. On balance. The couple of days back in Houston seem like a while back now :). My luck with fortuitous run-ins seemed unabated. My dislike of the city itself, likewise :|.

The rest of the time has been really well spent I'd say! Smaller places, familiar faces. And lots and lots and lots of miles of highway in between. Perfect weather days. Blue skies, green fields and the road that keeps going on forever.

There are good things to be said of road-trips. Not necessarily solo ones, but one does what one has to. At least I wasn't flying. I do suppose spanning six states in a day was a little bit ambitious, but it worked out pretty well :).

Of course, when I stopped to think about it, I had done almost as much in one day here as we'd done in the entire week driving around South Island in New Zealand. And then I did it all over again a couple of days later. Man, this place is just perfect for driving!!

Other than that though, it's been a lot of quiet conversations, reminiscence, contemplation of the future. And battling with Bay-Blades. (Anyone older than 10 will probably have to look that one up. :P)
We stumble and we pick ourselves up. How else can it work. After all one has to live with oneself.

Next stop, Mexico!!

Currently: just chillin'

:(

There are so many bad things to be said about missed flights.

Especially when the reasons are less than justifiable.

Well, at least things work out. Eventually.

Currently: bummed out :(

Exit planet work!

Right, I've been quiet all week, now can we just get out of here already?!! The weather, well... it's been up and down. For all the goodness the first three weeks of this trip brought, the last two have more than made up for I'd say :(.

The famous North Atlantic swell is quite impressive, even this far south. But that doesn't do us any good at all, as we bounce around trying to keep chairs from sliding, food from leaving plates and bowls without help, the shower from spraying water everywhere but where needed...

So assuming we do manage to get off the boat later this morning, I'm off to Houston again. It appears further adventures are likely to ensue, including some of the Mexican persuasion... As always, one lives in hope :).

Currently: can't wait for the break to begin :)

Sea-legs wanted!

This is exactly why I don't drink coffee on the boat :(. Perfect awful weather for it though. Gives you something to think about as you are climbing up and down the decks carrying a mostly full mug with the stairwell dancing a jig about you.

In three mugs I've figured out the workings of the somewhat fancy coffee machine in the galley to where it produces results to my liking. But I think this is a good time to stop. Psyched up on caffeine is the last thing I want to be on here!

It's been a while since we've been actually down for weather. I'm just hoping things are looking significantly better in a week's time!

Currently: overly caffeinated

Half a dozen rainy seasons

I just felt like a bit of typing actually :). Not that other things cannot be written about. But see, when I started off with this thing, oh about six years ago now... (Heh, had to bring it up. Forgot again, but was too busy snapping up Lisbon at the time. But I hardly think my blog would mind. :P)

Anyway, like I was saying, when I started, I hardly thought this would be much of a travelogue. I hadn't really been anywhere, yet, I mean, not really. It was more to be the thinking out loud space. The bin you throw those crumpled up thought bubbles into.

I guess at some point I went back to leaving the junk inside my head.

So why this now? It's much more befitting the traditional end of year glad/not so glad randomness (depending on offshore/onshore status mostly :)). I guess I'm just feeling good after a nice long run.

Feeling: tired
